UGG’s are big, ugly, and unfortunately extremely popular. These boots are not only ugly but can also be hazardous to the feet of their wearers. Each step in these horrid boots is ruining people’s feet and can lead to bigger problems. For everyone’s health and fashion’s sake, these boots should be removed from the dress code.
These expensive, slipper-like boots are slowly flattening feet. Their lack of support causes arches to flatten, ultimately leading to ankle, leg, and even hip problems. Doctors explain that, “Their feet are slipping around inside. With each step, the force falls towards the inside of the foot, and the feet splay. This flattens the arch and makes it drop.” Doctors have also seen a sharp rise in female patients with toe/foot problems, and have continually blamed UGG boots. Why should schools allow boots that could potentially cause long-term injuries? Schools should ban UGG boots from their dress code as a way to prevent injuries to the students who wear them.
UGG’s have been said to keep feet really warm, sometimes even too warm. “They are quite warm. Sometimes my feet are rather too hot,” one UGG wearer admitted. This warm, moist climate creates a breeding ground for fungus and bacteria. When shoes that have fungus are continually worn, the fungus can transfer to the wearer’s feet, and when people don’t wear socks with their UGG’s, it makes this transfer process even easier. Fungus can easily be spread, especially in boarding schools where showers are shared. Bacteria and fungus can also cause these boots to smell absolutely horrible. This is yet another reason to remove UGG’s from school dress codes, to keep everyone’s feet healthy.
Lastly, UGG’s are just plain UGLY. They make any outfit look completely frumpy and are not the most elegant shoes. The big Styrofoam-looking boots are not the least bit cute, and should never be worn for “little D” days. UGG’s look ridiculous when worn with skirts, dresses, and shorts.
I think these boots should be removed from dress code so the non-UGG supporters don’t have to look at them, or listen to them against the carpet as wearer’s drag their feet down the hall.
Even the Dean of Students, John Larson, shares a similar opinion, “UGGS are UGLY, they were meant to be worn after you go skiing or outside in the winter time, not in the classroom.” Could the removal of UGG’s in the dress code be in the near future?
I’m sorry but I love UGGs
I LOVE THIS. 100% agree
If the fact of not having arch support truly flattens the feet (it doesn’t). Then we also need to ban flip flops, sandals and 90% of all dress shoes and riding boots.
The splaying of the foot is necessary to dissipate the forces placed on the foot so stress fractures don’t occur. Also, the body weight is suppose to “fall to the inside of the foot”. The bones of the inner part of the foot are much thicker and designed to hold the weight of the body, where the outer bones are thinner and only designed for partial weight baring.
Flip flops, sandals and 90% of all dress shoes and riding boots aren’t ugly and ridiculous looking. So we wouldn’t have to ban them
Lets hear it for common sense-thanks Matt. If wearing footwear without arch supports causes flat feet and the sequelae mentioned …we’d better forbid going barefoot too.
Matt speaks the truth
I don’t think they should be removed from the dress code.
While I agree that UGGs are ugly and gross, and should not be worn in school, I will admit I own a pair for cold outdoor weather. It’s like burying my foot in the wool of a sheep, and I love it. especially in the snow, and I don’t even care that I look like I’m wearing tissue boxes on my feet.
you want to ban them just because you dont like the way they look? ridiculous much?
